 Well, how do, Jean?

JH> For a long readme, autoexec.bat, config.sys, textfile, *.inf file,
JH> etc. one screenful at a time the command is
 JH> type |more

JP> That is the one that I needed. Thanks. Now I remember using
JP> this version : c:\ type filename |more. Am I right ? Also, seems to
JP> me that a .txt file had the .txt appended to the filename as opposed
JP> to an .exe that would take the CLI of just the name. ???

Yup, anything with an .exe .com. or .bat extension is executable with just
the filename provided it is in your search path, you are in the directory
where it resides, or you give the full relative path. (IE:
C:\WHATEVER\FILENAME) Notice the back hashes.

If you have a lot of partitions, I use a small batch file called C:\BAT\WA.BAT:

dir/s/w c:\%1 > C:\wa.txt
dir/s/w d:\%1 >> C:\wa.txt
dir/s/w e:\%1 >> C:\wa.txt
dir/s/w f:\%1 >> C:\wa.txt
c:\util\list.com c:\wa.txt

This tells dir to look in subfolders, present a wide display, start in the
root of each drive, and pick up the %1 from my command argument. (IE:
"wa whatever.*" NOTICE the space.) When I start wa, it picks up
the "whatever.*" from what I command line.

The first line creates or overwrites C:\wa.txt, the next few lines appends
to that file. (Review: > creates, >> appends.) Then I run a
program that works a lot like more, called LIST. A common program not
included with DOS. Following this thread "more < C:\wa.txt" or
"C:\wa.txt | more" would do the same, but would not provide me
with LISTs abilities. The less-than greater-than signal is a redirect, the
| is called a pipe.

... I think I can. I think I can. Therefore, I might be?
