   Oh, that's what I ended up doing;  although I kinda wish now that I
hadn't...  Happened to notice a program recently (a binary editor) that
might have been useful in taking a look at the files, to see what was wrong
them them...   After all;  a tosser shouldn't fail to toss any other
packets that are present just because of a bad packet file...
