Rod, quoting a message on 29/06/93, from you to Phillip Dunne:

   >PE> I know you're a Telemate-die-hard, so maybe you could help
   >PE> Phillip with a problem.

   >PD> There is no need for any help. What I have been trying to
   >PD> do is show Paul that the problem is his by using the
   >PD> process of "exhaustive" elimination.

RS> Yeah, when you put it like that, it does appear to be a
RS> problem on Pauls. I havent seen it myself on uploads. OTOH I
RS> normally only upload relatively small REPs. I did upload a
RS> 300K a few days ago, but that was with the FrontDoor mailer.
RS> It went fine. Corse that proves absolutely nothing about how
RS> uploading thru Maximus would behave.

Part of my response was a knee jerk reaction to Paul automatically declaring
the problem to be mine. If we both wish to be obstinate, he can continue
listing callers that have no problems _uploading_, I can start namimg BBS
that I have _no_ problems with. This doesn't really count for much in the
long run. Hell, the problem could be both our faults.

RS> We have in the last couple of days, since Sunday am, seen an
RS> odd effect where there appears to be nothing getting thru
RS> from the his modem to the application. I logon, I see
RS> Binkley's 'press esc' etc. It doesnt appear to see my ESC at
RS> all and eventually times out and loads Maximus anyway. Then
RS> Maximus just sits there with the 'What is your name:' and
RS> never sees anything from me either.

There is obviously more to running a BBS than dearchiving a program and
running the setup. I wonder how many years (months?) it will take before
PE starts making Michael Butler sysop type sounds :).

   Phil.

PS. Paul got my modem wrong, I have an E5 (the very last batch made) not an
E7.
