subject: the Possessive case

Hi, Mike Powell!
I read your message from 01.03.2018 03:17
about the Possessive case.

ak>> Look: "former Trump campaign official" and "Donald Trump's
ak>> presidency". Why the former is without the Possessive case? It
ak>> probably should be "The decision by former Trump's campaign
ak>> official Rick Gates to plead guilty...."

MP> Actually, if you change it from "former Trump campaign official"
MP> to "Trump's former campaign official," the possessive is correct. I
MP> am not certain what the rule is there, but that is how we were
 MP> taught.

MP> That said, there may be some other rule that makes "former Trump
MP> campaign official" incorrect English, too. :) But I have never seen
MP> a possessive used when a sentence is phrased in that manner.

Having thought it over I think that maybe "Tramp" has been used
differently:

1. in "the decision by former Trump campaign official Rick Gates to
plead guilty" Tramp doesn't actually possess of this campaign -
"Tramp" is just an adjective to "campaign".
"Campaign" is an inanimate object, and therefore used without the
Possessive case.

Another example maybe could look like this: "A well-known Putin
glorification journalist has written a big article about the upcoming
elections".

2. in "it could mark the end of Donald Trump's presidency". Here
Tramp possesses his presidency, and we use "Tramp" as a name, a
noun, an animated object. So we should use the Possessive case.

Bye, Mike!
