Well I finally finished the Great Planes Super Skybolt that I started in
August of 1994. I put ailerons on both the upper and lower wings and I am
using a YS 120 4C for power. It is covered in metallic red, metallic blue,
and white. The basic pattern resembles the stars and stripes. I was
concerned that it would be nose heavy because of the engine, but it balanced
out right behind the landing gear, right were it was suppose to. I had to
put
about 6 ounces of lead in the wing because I side mounted the engine. Sunday
I took the fuselage out to the field to run a few tanks of gas. I am using
Predator fuel for 4 cycles that has 16% nitro. At first I had problems
running the engine, but a fellow club member pointed out that I had the
pressure and fuel lines reversed on the engine. And I only read the
instructions four times. Got the engine dialed in using a 15x8 propellor. I
used 3.25" Robart wheels for added clearence for the propellor and left off
the wheel pants. Given favorable wheather conditions I will gove the Skybolt
its maiden flight on Saturday.
Happy Landings
Mike
... Happiness is landing without losing a propellor!
