My cat attacked a friend of mine last year, and nobody could figure out why.  
The cat knew and liked the person.  A few days later, my friend discovered 
the remains of a rat carcass in her house.  Apparently, my cat detected the 
scent of dead rat on her, and did what cats do to rats!  Once the rat carcass 
was removed, her house fumigated, and her showered, the cat was back to 
normal with her.
