UW>CM> In addition, the U-2 is also limited in its ability to
UW>CM> try to out turn a missile. Since I don't have access to
UW>CM> specific information about the capabilities of the U-2,
UW>CM> and wouldn't specify even if I did know, I can only speak
UW>CM> in general terms. The U-2, as in all aircraft, has a
UW>CM> limiting mach number, or speed limit. At high altitudes
UW>CM> this also limits the turning capability of the U-2.
UW>As far as I can recall once I've read in a book or in an article
UW>that at such high altitudes the pilot has to balance the U-2
UW>within a very narrow flight regime between stall and loss of
UW>altitude due to diminishing lift.
UW>Thus, I doubt that the U-2 would be capable of out-turning a missile.
I think you are correct. I was trying to say the same thing
without actually coming right out and saying it, as I figured
this sort of thing was classified. Not that I'm saying that
I know that for a fact, just that it is my guess based on my
experiences with the T-33 and F-80, which, I'm guessing again,
were very similar to the U-2. (Same for the F-94)
