Most of them came off WWIV many many years ago.  Go back to 1984-86 or so. 
WWIV released it's code for adaption and stipulated a new name.  TG came
from that code and is so validly called a 'WWIV Hack' though there is
probably nothinbg left of that ancient code left in it this many years
later.
