I had Yankees fans tell me the Braves would be intimidated by Yankee Stadium;
that they'd succumb to the pressure of being heavily favored; that their
pitchers are arm weary from the NLCS (huh?).
But all the logic twisting in the world won't hide the fact that the Braves
have the best pitching in MLB, and their bats are on fire. That is a deadly
combination, as the Yankees found out tonight.
What can you say about Andruw Jones? The 'kid' started out the year playing
A ball. And now here he is starting Game 1 of the World Series and driving
in five runs with two homeruns in his first two at bats. Wow!
Lopez, Klesko, C. Jones, Perez, Dye, Wade and yes, Andruw Jones. The Braves
just keep reloading from within!
Smoltz clearly wasn't at his best, but Braves starters more often than not
find a way to get by when they don't have their best stuff.
Tomorrow it's Maddux vs. Key. Should be a much better game, especially given
Maddux's lack of run support. But if the Braves jump up on top early, look
out. It's only 1-0 now, but the stage has been set for a lopsided series if
the Yankees don't rebound quickly.
Let's hope the people who insist on keeping the moniker, The Bronx Zoo, stay
home tomorrow. It was only three idiots (one throwing a cup and two running
onto the field), but all the people cheering on the two idiots running onto
the field doesn't say a lot for Yankees fans in general. (No offense to
those of you who have some class.)
Hmmm...it's raining again. Will we even HAVE a game tomorrow? I hope so!
... Hey Yankees, welcome to the National League!
