Hello
I don't want to cloud the issue but because I've found a little Linux can
breathe new life into Warp4 I figure it moght be OK to mention this here.
There are a couple of new releases that are basically no-brainers with
amazing ability to detect and install hardware and function upon initial
install, automatically. I recently tried Xandros, a debian based distro
and the evolved version of Corel Linux, and upon first boot ALL my USB
devices worked including a cable modem. It detected and perfectly
installed a network printer on a windows box ( the only other PC on the
network besides the Freesco powered homebuilt router/firewall ) and Samba
shares appearred on the File Manager, just to name a few important items
that required no work on my part. If it is bought with the special package
it also will run numerous windows programs including Adobe Photoshop, most
MS Office apps in addition to the free alternatives, Real Player, Agent
Newsreader, etc etc etc. It won't take me away from
my Slackware since I am trying to learn nuts and bolts as opposed to
automatics, but I was very impressed. Some of the automatic settings
assisted me in getting them right in Slackware and OS/2 ie Samba. If you
have no interest, fine but don't assume it is still a steep learning curve
because that is history.
