DM> What's the story with the Maestro Bug??
DM> First I've heard of it.
DM> BTW, I have A SE V32 only, not the newer 144's etc.
It happens on the SE's as well as the 144FM's, so I discovered today! Here
is the rundown:
Hi all, could someone help with this please:
Problem between Supra and Spirit modem
This problem has been shown to occur during tests with one Supra
modem and four Spirit modems. The lack of availability of another
Supra modem makes further testing difficult.
At connects done at 9600, 12000 or 14400 between the two modems,
if V42 is enabled, when a file is going from the Spirit to the
Supra, the MR light flashes, and throughput sticks at about 800 cps
(for V32bis anyway).
Exhaustive testing indicates that the problem is either the Supra
is requesting retransmission of every block and not flashing the
light to show an error, or the Spirits are imagining they have
had a request for retransmission when one wasn't really received.
If MNP4 is used instead of V42, the file is transferred at about
108% efficiency, without MR blinking at all. Also, about 1 in 10
connects at V42 also experiences no problems at all.
The Spirit most testing was done with has had the hardware modification
done (didn't fix the problem) and then a whole new board (didn't fix
the problem).
Files going from the Supra to the Spirit do not have a problem.
The Supra is able to receive files from other V32bis, V42bis modems
without a problem, and the Spirit is able to send to other V32bis,
V42bis modems without a problem.
Does anyone have any information about this problem, from either a
Spirit or Supra side?
Could anyone who owns a Supra try FREQing SMPLFIDO.ZIP (112564 bytes)
from 3:711/934 (running a Spirit) to see what transfer rates are
gotten? If you could send me the CPS rate, and ROM level, that would
be much appreciated. Or for that matter, any file transfer FROM ANY
Spirit TO ANY Supra. Thanks + bye. Paul.
P.S. Since then the Maestro 144FM modems have exhibited the same problem as
the Supra - they cannot receive files properly from a Spirit. They don't
have any problems with other modems. Here is the sample log calling a
Maestro:

The phone number of this person who is running a BBS thus can be called
anytime is 61-63-41-1859. Same problem, MR light pulsing. I am using
the latest ROMS in the Spirit (3220/3310), but I had the same problem
with earlier ROMS. There are several people reporting the same problem
with their Spirit also. In fact, I haven't found a single Spirit owner
who doesn't have a problem sending to either Maestro 144FM or Supra.
Thanks + bye.
