incorrect... the I stands for Intel as in compiled for Intel processors...
the 386 means that it is compiled to run on a 386 or higher... 286 are
out... again, this has to do with the compiling and which machine language
command set is used... if it had said I586, then it would run on 386 or 486
machines without recompiling...

when i'm hunting down linux software, i specifically look for I386 so that
i can run it on /all/ my machines ;)

just something to think about...
