I'm not worried about the boot portion of it,  I can probably get that
sorted out,  with LILO or whatever...

I'm wondering about the install.  Been so darn long since I did it that I
don't remember the details all that much,  but my recollection is that I'd
boot the 98 CD and let 'er rip,  which is not gonna give me any options
when it comes to partitioning.

Maybe set up a partition first?

Maybe I need to set up a test fixture and see what works...
