Hola Bob :) Monday December 02 2002 14:03, Bob Short decˇa a Felipe T. Dorado: FT>> That's probably one that a Colombian SysOp translated. He offered to do FT>> it weekly ... Poor soul! ;) BS> I hope he's still around and willing to continue that. He sporadically appears and disappears unfortunately. He's a new node and the only one there I believe, had some problems with his machines or other. BS> The debates that will happen after an initiation will be of BS> interest to Spanish speaking sysops as well as others. ;-) Yes, I hope there are debates and that they serve well towards agreements. However it does take time to translate things, specially debates, and just extracting the gist of something is quite challenging. And translating the Snooze ... Uff! and weekly! Hard task that would become work instead of a pleasure. It would be different if Fidonews were in fact _news_. If they were I would offer to do it myself to contribute to that sense of community they are supposed to maintain. It would be great if the Snooze had sections in various languages and that all zones contributed to them. The news part could be translated and general articles left in the original. FT>> Are we not a network? Do we not have means to propagate the FT>> proposal through our own media? Yes, we do. If not in the FT>> Snooze we have innumerable echoes, don't we? Let's use them. BS> Indeed we should... but recent experience tells me that it's not as BS> easy as it sounds. We went almost a year before some in Z2 were BS> aware of what we were doing. Distributing requires translations so BS> everyone can understand, and people willing and able to do so. I don't quite see the difficulty. I figure that each region has at least a general announcements echo which just about everyone is linked to. We do, it's called ESP.AVISOS. And every region has its own SysOp echo. I forwarded several of your messages with the status of the ammendment in the SysOps' and Coords' echoes over the months. Finding somebody in at least each zone to post such things in some of those generally linked echoes should not be that hard. :? And CC-ing RC's asking them to please post something is not that difficult either, is it? Spammers do it. }:( At least it could be tried. Besides, can we really call ourselves a global network if we can't even spread something network-wide? FT>> I hope you undestand. I would not like finding the amendment in FT>> some web page and then referrals to that url ... We do have FT>> echoes and they still work. BS> I think that's a goood place to /suppliment/ distribution, but you are BS> correct in saying they belong in the echos here first. :) I'm glad I managed to put my point across :) Felipe :) --- Fastecho 1.45/GED/Fd 2.12* Origin: El Zoco BBS, Califato de Cordoba - Cordoba (Spain) (2:345/702) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 345/702 341/200 14 261/38 123/500 106/1 379/1 633/267 |
