I am fairly certain, from talking to several teens my sons age (16) 
  that a certain wooded plot of land is being used on weekends as
  a gathering spot for local teens.  On one occasion my son admitted
  to going there and sleeping in a truck (he had told my wife and I
  he was sleeping over at a friend's house).  If this land is city
  property, I assume the police would act on information about this,
  but if it turns out to be private land, would they have any
  jurisdiction, or would I need to get the land owner involved to 
  file a complaint?   There is usually plenty of beer flowing at
  these parties, and I am very worried that someone is going to
  drive off drunk and kill someone.  My wife is more concerned that
  we'll lose ground with my son by "blowing the whistle" on this
  little party spot and implicating his friends.
