WC>People also need to realize brake fluid is hydroscopic
WC>and absorbs water and is otherwise contaminated.
WC>Brake fluid must be replaced on regular intervals
WC>and care must be taken not to get air into the lines either.

With the little rubber damn now used undr the Fil lcap it is less
important then it once was. But it is Foolish not to do it.
Interstingly with a pressure bleeder it is a mindless and quick job. YET
should want outrageious prices to do it. That decidedly discourages
people form having it done. The whole PM thing has been turned into a
Money Tree by Mechanics. For a 30,000 mile Maintenenace schedule they
don't even bling in Charging $500 or more. Anmd when you read down the
list of things done, Which have been worded to sound very impressive,
you wonder what in the hell is going on.
But in all fairness since my day of Automobile work things have changed.
A Dealer used to make his money form Car Sales. that is no longer fully
true. They now sell cars at the slimist of Margins and would go out of
business it they depended on Car Sales Profit to stay in business.
THE new "Cash Cow" is the Mainteneance/Repair side of the business.

WC>I rebuilt the brakes on one motorcycle I bought used where the _brake
WC>fluid_ looked like Silly Putty.
WC>How it actually managed to stop at all I'll never know.

WC>Don't even get me started on differential fluid though that
WC>needs much less frequent attention.

WC>Hearing a differential squeal on a friend's van I advised him to check
WC>and replace fluid as needed.

WC>He ignored my advice and three weeks later the differential gave out.

WC>How many people do you know who even know differential fluid even EXISTS
WC>
