Set up the router and its done.

Yes, that is it. ISDNPM (or other types of software routers) are only
needed if there is no hardware router. As a sample the zyxel does:
- connect your local network together (the switch part in it does it)
- connect your local network to outside the world using
- NAT: hides your local computer from the world
only the router itself is visible from outside
- firewall: holds ports open inside your local netork
closed to/from the world (e.g. blocking netbios
and other ports from/to outside)
- router: routes between different networks. Here between your
local net (192.168.*.* and a.b.c.d (your dynamic IP
your ISP gives you when you logged in)
DSLrouter (network cards) local network
instead of
DSLPC (network card) software router
(network card)
(network cards)local network
No, it is an DSL router (ADSL, TDSL,...). It owns 1 DSL port and 4
ethernet ports. Other kinds of routers have 1 ISDN prort and 4
ethernet ports, other have DSL + ISDN + ethernt..... others have only
ethernet ports.
A routers job is to connect different networks together.
A switchs job is to connect multiple computers of the same network
together
A Hubs job is to boost physical signals.
A DSL router is typically 3 in one:
- a switch (connecting local network)
- a router (route between networks)
- DSL modem (ethernet PPPxE)
