HdA> appli  log

 HdA> leaves me with a file of 0 length, whereas without redirection:

 HdA> appli < input

 HdA> results are written to the screen.

Try using fprintf(stderr,...) or changing stdout's buffer to 0, or you
could just fflush(stdout) after every call to printf.  Any of these would
result in a longer 'log' file.
