Barry accepted an invitation to the Tidy Bowl by saying:
BLJ> Could you see the NFL absorbing some CFL teams if (or when) the CFL
BLJ> folds?
I've discussed this but the Canadians, who don't understand the dynamic of
the NFL, disagree with what I'm going to say -- yes, they probably would take
one or two. Those two would be Toronto and Edmonton. Alan Hess, who isn't
Canadian, disagrees with Toronto because of the stadium size and many of the
Canadians disagree with Edmonton because of the city size. Of course,
Edmonton is larger than most NFL cities. There are MSAs, metropolitan
statistical areas, that are larger than Edmonton, however, the fans in those
areas aren't nearly as rabid as the Eskimos fans. Think of them like the
Packers, who could probably stuff about 80,000 into a stadium if they had one
that big and that's during their bad times. The Eskimos are far more
impressive AND consistent with their support than ANY other CFL city. Most
people see Toronto as a great addition, however, I would really put Edmonton,
BC and Vancouver as better options than Toronto and especially Montreal.
*IF* the NFL took any team, I think that they'd take Toronto and Edmonton.
Let's not forget that Edmonton doesn't pad their attendance figures while
Toronto does so, even with Doug Flutie (Vancouver and BC don't pad, either).
