-> Hiya Jan,
->
-> I have been meaning to catch you up on the Quakers, so here goes.
Hiya Fran! Oh boy!
-> I think the last you heard was that a snake was in the nest that I
-> let them build.
You Texans sure are brave- I'd bravely
run away.
-> They seemed to be content being back in the house that they had build
-> out of twings and branches. But, one day I thought that I saw the
-> nest moving. No! I wasn't drinking. And sure enough it was. They were
-> changing the entrance by moving it about 35 degree around to another
-> side.
Is the new entrance on the opposite side of where you think the snake
got in? I'm wondering if they remember the snake incident after being
away from their home for a couple of months.
-> Such clever little buggers they are. They did not take the nest apart
-> at all. They just restructured it by...???? I don't know how they did
-> it. I notice that they were also trying to add a roof. Since I had
-> not put any new material in for them they could not go very far with
-> this new addition. So, I started putting in more twigs and
-> branches...some very thin and flexible so that they can keep weaving
-> them through the wire.
They must have recycled their materials. You're making me wish I had
such clever little guys out back to watch.
-> Watching these Quakers building their own nest has really been a neat
-> experience. I wonder what kind of materials they would choose if they
-> could get out and pick and choose.
Maybe you could put out all sorts of stuff and see what they like. When
little Beezie was making his "nests" all over our house, one of his
favorite materials was our hair, pulled right out of our heads during
naps if he was really desperate.
