FK>TVRO to me is like a fragile plant, you really have to observe it and to

  It's already here. It's called 4DTV.
With 4DTV, you have the ability to place literally thousands of
channels (video, voice, data, etc.) on transponders which previously
only held a few dozen at most. You will soon see an explosion of
satellite services arrive.
The cost per channel for the uplinkers will decrease (the satellite
does not care what you send through it - it's only data, after all) and
viewers choices will increase. Subscription suppliers will be able to
offer many new services to dish owners.
It's also going to happen to the over the air TV stations as well,
even though some of them don't realize it just yet. (I work at a TV
station.) I haven't ordered my 4DTV unit yet, but I will as soon as
there are some feeds on it that I want to receive.
The cost is about the same as a good high end analog receiver. For
someone just starting into BUD ownership, the 4DTV is the way to go - if
you want to be able to see anything more than about a year and a half or
so into the future. At about that point, I expect most of the
transponders will have been converted because of the lower transmission
costs.
