Personally, I think the dog is another classic example of dear,
ol' Klinton wetting his crooked finger and testing to see where
the wind is blowing...
I've seen a lot of hay made in the press about Klinton not owning
a dog -- you see, the dog has been the most common choice for
presidential pets. Just about every president this century has
owned a dog. Interestingly, the last prez to NOT own a dog (and
notably owning a cat) was Jimmy Carter (I'm not pointing this out
to offend cat owners)...
If Klinton was TRULY a "dog person" (which I am), he would have
been owning dogs all along. I think he got the dog for image --
not for any great love for dogs or the breed he selected (or, as
I think, was deemed the best breed for the best possible image).
As a life-long dog-lover, I feel great compassion for this poor
dog -- I don't think he will ever know the security of knowing
his place in his pack because he'll be passed around for all the
photo-ops and ignored when it is not expedient or convenient...
For most of us who own pets -- dogs, cats, whatever -- we own our
pets because we care about them & derive pleasure & companionship
from our little furry friends. I have no tolerance for those who
take on a pet because it is "hip" or "cool" then abandon or ignore
the pet when the "coolness" has run out... sigh...
So, you can see why I view Klinton getting a dog as just another of
his shallow, insubstantial deeds that prove what an idiotic excuse
for a mealy-mouthed cardboard cut-out he is...
