123c5463a06b tech Hello Wayne - ->> I took my Lincoln to a local mechanic and told him "This is ->> a heavy car and it HAS to stop when I hit the brakes". My ->> brakes had gone out (to the floor) and I wanted that to NOT ->> happen again. I did not set a price nor ask for 'cheap'. I ->> got the car back and two weeks later driving home the same ->> thing happened _again_. WC> This is exactly why I did ALL my own brake work even on WC> cars. I'll bleed them, replace brake lines, rebuild master WC> cylinders, remove and replace the pistons, seals and brake WC> pads all by my lonesome rather than to trust a mechanic. I have done my own brake jobs all of my life because I didn't want my last words on this earth to be "Oh sh*t, no brakes!". I've had some physical 'difficulties' not long ago that make working on the car difficult/painful and it was winter and I was moving in just a few weeks 140 miles west of here. I needed help. --8<--cut ->> instructed him to replace the cylinders, bill me for the ->> parts, but no additional labor which he did. So far the ->> brakes have been working but now I'm 'gun-shy' with very ->> little confidence the brakes will continue to work. WC> This is why I did all my own work. Even a few lousy stinkin WC> bubbles in a brake line can cause your brakes to _go away_ WC> unexpectantly. Gases being compressable keep the hydraulics WC> from working and bringing the car ( or motorcycle) to a WC> halt. WC> The only bad thing that ever happened to me ( minor) from a WC> home brake repair was I lost the spring from the pliars I WC> was trying to replace it onto the rear brake shoes on a car WC> where they retract the brake shoe when the brakes are WC> released. Shot that spring right into a finger. My single WC> and worst home vehicle repair incident :-) I've had brake springs fly off in many directions with a great deal of force. It would be a mistake to not wear safety glasses or goggles while doing a brake job IMO. WC> Hey when it's your own ride and it's you and your own's WC> butt on the line you take care to get it right! I always did 'take care to do it right' and never have had my brakes fail before on any automobile I have owned. This was a new experience (twice) for me. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
