I think it would have hit above his glove.
Let's do this scientifically. Tarasco is 6' 1" tall (according to Who's
Who.) The right field wall in Yankee Stadium is ten feet tall. I'm about
Tarasco's height. Stretching in my living room, I come about four inches
below the ceiling, which is eight feet. Adding a few inches for his glove,
we're talking about two feet below the top of the wall. The kid touched the
ball about two feet out, and about even with the top of the wall. I can't
say for sure he wouldn't have caught it, but my judgement is that he probably
would not have. However, given that he was on the visiting team, and he
certainly had a chance for the ball, if I could have thought of all of this
in the split second it happened, I would have called Jeter out.
