BM> Most of us have heard that Disney is working on a
BM> sequil to _Fantasia_,
BM> presently saddled with the inventive title of _Fantasia II_. I haven't
BM> been able to find out what musical selections will be included (have
BM> you?), so I have decided to accept nominations from
BM> my fellow EchoEars.
BM> Please nominate your selections for pieces of music to be included,
BM> along with any ideas you have about appropriate
BM> animation for each one.
BM> I would appreciate it if you nominated only one piece per post to make
BM> it easier to tally the results. If I get enough nominations to make it
BM> worthwhile, I'll publish a list of the top nominees and we can vote on
BM> our favorites. It may be too far along for Disney to take our advice,
BM> but there's always _Fantasia III_!
At the September 1995 Dianeyana Convention we were given a preview of some
of "Fantasia Continued". The following four segments will remain:
Nutcracker, Sorcerer, Dance of the Hours, and Night on Bald Mountain.
They are adding the Beethoven Symphony #5 (as the abstract), Respighi's
Pines of Rome (featuring cavorting [and flying] humpback whales),
Shostakovich's Piano Concerto #2 (based on Hans Christian Anderson's
Steadfast Tin Soldier [they found some original Walt Disney storyboards for
this]), Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganni (nothing special shown
or said), Saint Sean's Carnival of the Animals (A flock of flamingoes finds a
yo-yo [the audiance was having hysterics; the yo-yo seems to win]), and one
of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance Marches (they said it will **NOT** involve
the Classic Characters).
James Levine will be doing the conducting and Peter Schickele will be
doing the narration.
