Couple of ways to do it but sure Windows wants to take over the MBR.
Linux allows for this generally very well installed second.

Details of various methods I'll leave to the gurus
but I've used FIPS, LiLo and booted the Linux kernal straight out of 
DOS after rebooting Win 98 to DOS.

No real DOS under your release of Win and the latter will not
work I'd say.
