PM>> thanks for the macros. I much prefer that the auto-indent put in spaces PM>> instead of tabs. PE> Code changes do that. The ultimate in flexible configuration :-) Reminds me of the IBM approach to configuration on the mainframe - make the change and 'just' IPL (we can fit the 30-40 minutes required in during lunch can't we :-)). You can see this philosophy has been carried over to OS/2. How do you change the PATH and LIBPATH? Just reboot. PM>> You're really keen to convert me aren't you :-) PE> EVERYONE should convert! It is THE WAY! Hallelujah Brother Paul! When do you start going round knocking on peoples door, Emacs manual in one hand, disks in the other, trying to convert the unbelievers to the cause? PM>> Maybe it's time I started PM>> to read the manual (although I don't like to rush these things :-)) PE> I don't think there's any need to do that. I've only started reading the PE> manual after about (1 year?) of use. Ok, so do tabs actually work the PE> way you want them to work? They don't actually insert 4 spaces, they PE> insert enough spaces to put you on a 4-space-multiple+1, e.g. if you're PE> on position 2, if you press tab it will take you to position 5, press it PE> again and you go to 9. Is that what you want? BFN. The difference here is that you were happy to use the default key bindings that came with Emacs so you didn't need to read the manual. I refuse to learn them and won't use Emacs until I've configured the editor the way I want it. Until I get around to reading how to configure it (I'm sure it'll be Real Soon Now) I'm not using it! The way you've made the tabs work is the way I want them. Now what about shift-tab :-) Paul --- GoldED 2.40* Origin: It's life Jim, but not as we know it (3:711/934.1) SEEN-BY: 711/934 |
