And the FCC has standards that these computers are supposed to meet (and we
 all know how that goes!).
I have a Pentium 133 I'm using now, in a tower case without the cover on it,
feeding a 17" monitor, and I'm running a PRO-2006 about 6 feet away from it,
with no problems at all. I also have a 386/33 in a desktop case with the
cover on, about 4' from the 2006, that I use to run an R-7100 and R-5000,
with no interference at all that I can find. Yet, I know of a few (and have
heard of many) computer setups that wreak havoc on scanners, even triple
conversion models. Obviously, these are not all shielded to the same degree,
even though they all have the FCC stickers.
Items like stereos, speakers, TVs, scanners, and the like, usually have an
FCC statement to the effect that they may not cause interference, and must
accept any interference from legally operating transmitters.
So, what if you have two such devices causing interference to each other? I
dunno; I wonder if contacting the FCC would get you anywhere (dumb question,
in reality... we'd probably be lucky if they didn't just hang up on us!).
