Hi Janis,

JK> Understand.. from my experience at least, allergies gang up on you
JK> that way :( or I guess it could be that you really were allergic to

Probably so. In my case, it was after some wrist surgery; the wrapping
they put on had latex in it. Last year I had a line put in for an IV; it
was covered by a clear patch. Less than 24 hours later, I had a "nice"
case of hives in that area.

JK> That's funny only because I can't remember mom ever making beets.. My
JK> dad insisted (really) on having pasta of whatever type every night..
JK> but because he was a doc, he wasn't "around" every night at dinner
JK> time...those nights when he was on duty, well ... mom let us eat
 JK> "other food" :)

My dad was around every night for dinner--unless the fire siren went off
as we sat down. He covered that, and lots of other stuff for the
newspaper. His "must have" for most supper meals was mashed potatoes;
gravy with them some nights, plain for nights when Mom couldn't make it
from the meat served with it (ham--tho that could have been done, she
just never did--, meat loaf, etc).

>> > That's a lot of carbs! Was he in a job where he worked them off?

>> Yes, he did pretty much. He wasn't a small guy either.. big frame.

JK> > So he could handle the carb load, I couldn't, especially now.

JK> Yep.. I'm sure it wasn't good for him all in all but his body could
 JK> handle it.

I had a heavier than usual carb day yesterday but was able to do a good
bit of walking so today's reading was good. We're trying to coach one of
my sisters in good diabetic meal planning for her husband while we're
here.

JK> > Looks interesting, something different to do with squash.

JK> One of our favorites :)

So many ways to cook squash, but then too, there are so many squash
around in the summer.....................(G)
