Here is the updated emacs.rc to set the tab to 4 spaces:

set $timeflag TRUE
set $posflag TRUE
bind-to-key newline ^J
bind-to-key newline-and-indent ^M
set $softtab 4



If you change the $softtab to $hardtab then it will still be 4, but it
inserts a "real" tab instead of replacing with spaces.  Which one did
you want?  There doesn't appear to be a backtab, at least in the doco,
but I suspect it can be done anyway.  BFN.
