Short version: rain, speeding, hairpin turn with an oil slick,
Corvair goes sideways, NO recovery possible when a Corvair goes
sideways, into the ditch, up on it's side, fell back down while
I was trying to open passenger side door to get out. 

With the engine in the rear it wasn't a good idea to allow the
car to rotate much past 45 degrees. After that it was likely
you would not get it back in line with the road. The car was
driveable after the accident. I drove it for another year after
pulling the 'tucked in' fenders out and then sold it to a
co-worker who made a sort of 'dune buggy' out of that would do
wheel stands on take off. :-)
