Hi Geoffrey,
Actually having altf2on.$$$ in root [normal situation here] suppresses 
the display, or possibly overwrites it immediately, in the absence of an 
os2norev.$$$ in \os2\boot.  From what I read the SMP and UNI kernels are 
both for SMP machines under different circumstances, non-SMP machines 
should be using the W4 kernels.
