CA>You forgot the Chevy Citations breaking in half along with the CA>Chrysler K cars doing the same. ;-) I believe that was form Rust Damage i nareas that heavely use Salt o nthe Roads in the Winte. Of course it was a Calcualated "Bean Counter" decision to take a short cut on the undercoating. But as wel las we are memtioning "Bean Counter" Idoicy how about the Chevf VEGA. They also had a bad rust problem in the "Salt States". In their case it was teh Winshield frame that rusted out badly and also the rocker pannels were the water collected. Thew worst one though was the Engine Overheating. It had an aluminum engine and i nthe heat disipation calculations they relied heavely o nthe engine itself and the ability of the aluminum to sink the heat form the interior and put in a grossly undersized radiator. It was about 1/2 the size of any other engine of equilivent displacement. Well in actual practice the Grime built up on the engine with miledge and the Aluminum lost it's capability to disipate the heat. GUESS what?? Chevrolet replaced more engines under warranty for the Vega ALL the other divisions until they installed a proper sized radiator. They also went to galvanized metal in the high prone rust spots. Being a Corvair Fan as a matter4 of Automobile Trivia I will state that the Corvair Engine was the MOST reliable of any GM had ever built in it's day. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ This note from El Cajon California USA* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
