subject: Engine Failure V-1,V-R

ED> JC> You are correct here but it could also hold true for the Captain
ED> JC> as well. It's the mental state at this point. In the
ED> JC> Simulator it's "OK, he's going to chop the engine at V-1 so I
ED> JC> am thinking about it and I'm ready".
ED>That's true, but i think it should be so for every take-off and
ED>landings: be prepared. That why when i'm rolling for TO i always
ED>remind me "attitude 12 degrees" (flying 737) which is the most
ED>important if an engine failure occurs at V1 or later. Rudder input is
ED>(for me) an automatic reflex to stabilize the aircraft in roll and
ED>heading.
You and I are thinking the same way. It's extremely important to be
prepared for the "worst case senerario".
ED> JC> I don't know the full extend of the conversation but to clarify.
ED> JC> I think you should always have your feet close to the rudders.
ED> JC> Use them no but close yes.
ED>You're right, and even when the Cpt is taking-off.
ED>I will always remember simulator training session, where the
ED>instructor puts an engine flame-out after Vr. I don't know why but
ED>the Cpt (flying), gave input on the wrong rudder, the airplane was
ED>not less than 60o degrees bank.
I have seen it happen many times. It's hard for me to understand why
someone would use the wrong rudder but it certainly happens.
ED>I had my feet close to the rudder and finally correct it.
ED>In the reality, i would not wait so long, but it's was only a
ED>training. If it occurs in a simulator while you are prepared for such
ED>a thing, it can occur in the reality too. So my opinion is that both
ED>pilots have to be prepared.
You just can't say it enough Eric.
ED> JC> It is extremly important for the Pilot not flying to be prepared
ED> JC> to assume flying duties for whatever reason. You can't do that
ED> JC> if you are relaxed and maybe sitting on one leg (a joke).
ED> JC> Takeoff and Landing is an extremly critical phase of flight.
ED>Yes and if you know that 1 engine failure occurs for minimum 5 pilot
ED>incapacitations, you will also be prepared to take control when you
ED>are not flying.
Certainly nice hearing you comments and I think I would love to fly with
you anytime....Cheers......Jim.....
