-> I know that terrible gleam- my grey, Nigel, uses it regularly to
-> scare me silly. The strangest thing about Nigel is that he often
-> looks at you
Our Yellow Cheek had a way of warning you that he was about to take a
plug out of something/one by squinting his pupil down to pinsize. Do
you happen to know anything about that feature of Amazons? The LC never
did it but then he was blind..... The YC could scare the heck out of
you if he did that while you were in no position to defend yourself!
He also attacked bugs fiercely!
-> I wonder if they actually recognize themselves, or see the reflection
-> as another bird? Self-recognition is supposed to be an indicator of
-> intelligence.
IMHO they're plenty smart, but I believe they're trying to impress the
'other bird' they see in the mirror. Our YC played by the hour at the
mirror, but as he aged (and got cranky) he'd attack his image in the
mirror viciously when it didn't respond to his liking. I din't call
THAT real smart.....
-> That sounds so idyllic, but I do fear for the bird. There's too many
-> big and hungry things out there. I'm afraid to even take my birds
-> out on the deck in their cages. I watch them constantly when they're
-> out.
She never leaves hers out unattended, but thinks nothing of walking
outside with him sitting on her shoulder. He'll take off and soar around
beutifully but I'm not sure if you could get back inside without him.
He's wary that way.
Oh! They have a pet pig too, and the conure just LOVES to torment that
poor pig. You might be able to sneak inside while 'Pepper' pesters the
pig.
They lost a DYH two years ago because it ate some tuna salad that was on
the coffee table.
-> My grey thinks cats are wonderful. Aye!
So did my "Cookyroo Bird" (Ringneck dove.) Sigh.
-> And we readers need writers! I confess that I lurk on WRITING and
-> know you're a writer.  I wish I were. . .
Well come out of the closet and join us! There's probably a writer
locked up in there....
