Vern, are you familiar with a Remington 514 bolt action single shot .22?  
Circa 1960-1970, chambered for .22lr, also shot .22long and short.
I have one that for various reasons has a mucked up chamber, and I know 
i'll never shoot as well with it as the 10/22 now that it sports a new 
bull barrel.  I was thinking of having the 514 reamed out to chamber 
.22magnum rimfire.  What do you think?  I've really no other use for the 
rifle now that I found out I can fire .22cb shorts in my cheap .22 
semi-auto.  And I've always wanted a .22 magnum.
