I've _seen_ American math texts with small print, small borders, and few
illustrations other than graphs...and American math texts with large print,
wide borders, and many illustrations other than graphs.
I question how many American reporters know enough Japanese to be able to
make the (reported) comparisons between Japanese and American texts.
