BT> Never tried mine exclusively for sound.
I've used my Beta quite extensively for audio. I've got lots of tapes
where the video's sound is mono linear only, and the same tape's Hi-Fi
audio tracks contain music that's unrelated to the video.
BT> I see that both mine and my dad's entry level one from 1982 have PCM
BT> inputs on the back.
Yeah, that jack was a common feature of Beta. And some PCM units can be
connected to /any/ VCR via the regular RCA video jacks.
BT> I'm not knowledgeable about how much you can do with this. Obviously,
BT> you need an outboard A/D converter or the bitstream output from a
BT> CD-ROM. But what's the fastest sampling rate you can use? Something
BT> faster than 441kHz?
It's not a function of the VCR, but the A/D converter. The VCR will handle
any sampling rate supported by the A/D converter. Many offer 48 mhz.
BT> Hope the moderator doesn't mind all this talk about VIDEO

Well, there /is/ a lot of overlap, after all.
