ROY WATSON had something deep to write about C/C++ RW> I've just started learning C, and I wanted to know if programming RW> in OS/2 is much different than DOS. The answer is yes and no. If you stick with ANSI standard C stuff (text only, no graphics) your programs will be almost identical for DOS, OS/2, Unix, and so on. Some of my DOS programs compiled for OS/2 with zero changes, but others required significant ones. If you use graphics, routines that call BIOS functions, or DOS weird memory mode far????() functions, you will have to make changes in your programs. To get the best use out of OS/2, you will have to learn and use even more stuff (that won't work in DOS). In other words, learning the main features of C is a good thing to do, no matter what OS you use. Then you can go on to bigger and better things. Right now, my machine has a C and a C/C++ compiler for DOS and one C/C++ for OS/2, with a second OS/2 C/C++ compiler sitting on the shelf. --- QScan v1.131b / 01-0093* Origin: La Cantina BBS * El Paso * 915-532-0332 6GB, 3 Nodes (1:381/123) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 54/54 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 SEEN-BY: 711/430 807 808 809 934 942 949 712/353 623 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 381/123 900 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 54/54 711/808 809 934 |
