-> WC>Just read an article on the web about a new breed of -> WC>young technogeek. -> WC>Seems some individuals have gotten into reprogramming the black -> WC>boxes in their cars to maximize performance beyond anything they came -> WC>of the assembly line with. -> WC>With our youth well behind of us neither of us would be up -> WC>to the task thses days. -> WC>Were we younger I imagine we'd both be doing a bit of such tweaking. -> Yes. Apparently there is a loophole in the OBD-3 system. -> But in the earlier models of the Engine Computer Control the ROM chip -> was in a Socket and one could buy a replacement that tweeked the -> performance. OF course the SMOG output went up dramaticly. Later they -> soldered the chips but that only eliminated the Shade Tree Hot Rodder. -> The Techno Geek automotable fan just concidered it a smal lshalendge to -> pull the chip and put the re-programed o n in. Made it a bit tougher to -> put the Stock chip back for the Smog Inspection though. The site I accessed spoke of some having the programming switchable with a switch inside the driver's com[partment if desired. Best of both worlds Think I hit a link off of slashdot.com --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
