Hi Janis,

JK> > Not good. We had major thunderstorm warnings again last night but
JK> > escaped any hail, flooding etc. Today hasn't been quite as
 JK> hot/humid; > it's been clouded over with a breeze.

JK> Hopefully your weather over there has been good to you this week.. I

I'm surviving, but glad we have central air conditioning.

JK> was so ill finally starting last Friday night I think, I barely was
JK> able to pay attention to much.. running to doctors, dealing with
 JK> various meds etc..

Not a good time at all! I had a scheduled appointment yesterday with a
hand specialist and have to see my cardiologist on Thursday. That's a
routine 6 month check up; the other was follow up on a severe arthritis
flare up I had a couple of months ago in the thumb joint.

>> to thin the beets, spinach, chinese cabbage and lettuce. More salads

JK> > Sounds like some good eating. We've been enjoying the fresh produce
JK> from > the farmer's market this spring, plus the first tomato from our
 JK> set of > 3 plants.

JK> Still no signs of tomatoes yet but plants are doing really well..
JK> That's not unusual for NY though as I'm sure you remember.. Boy do I
JK> wish we could actually get an early tomato over here :) Not to be I
JK> guess. I've even tried Early Girls here, and it's the same problem
JK> with the weather in Western NYS.

We were given our plants in April with blossoms already on them. That
was a big jump start for us; we usually get them a few weeks less
mature. Tonight's supper was BLTs with home grown T on home made whole
wheat (which we ground the berries to make the flour for) bread.

>> That's good. I usually freeze parsley. Probably time to get out
>> there and grab a few bunches as well.

JK> > I usually dry, then freeze it.

JK> Seems to work better for me if I freeze it given the kind of cooking I
JK> do.. I do have some dried though for when the frozen parsley runs out,
JK> it is handy no doubt. :)

And, conversly, the cooking I do, the dry works well.

>> > We only put in 3, pass alongs from a naighbor who had extras. I

>> IIRC, I put in 5 Big Boys, and 4 Romas. I doubt they have flowers yet,
>> but you never know :)

JK> > Better check--we have Better Boys. I thought about putting in some
JK> Romas > but we'll be on the road off and on this summer so wouldn't
JK> neccessarily > be home at the right time to do anything with them.

JK> Understand.. we decided this year we'll revamp the center
JK> island/dishwasher/rinse-sink and lighting in the kitchen instead of
JK> travelling.. Originally we thought about about a trip to Yellow Stone
JK> park.. but I'd really rather get some things done in the kitchen. :)

We'll be heading north for Steve's high school class reunion & the
picnic next month. In August we're going back to VT with the mission
team to do VBS again. Steve and I are going separate from the team so we
can do some visiting of friends and relatives; we plan to get to VT
ahead of the rest of the team to do the grocery shopping and have supper
ready for them. Have trailer, will travel. (G)

>> > And I should have gotten some lettuce at the farmer's market today >> for
JK> > BLTs. Got other stuff instead--potatoes, green beans, cucumbers >>
 JK> and
>> > some spelt cinnamon rolls.

>> Sounds nice :) We passed by one of Ithaca's farmers markets today, we
>> didn't have time to stop.. I was running to an emergency services
>> place for a bad sinus infection that seemed to come out of nowhere..
>> It's the first time I've been to one, really nice people and fast
>> service.

JK> > Hopefully you're doing better now. Did they give you antibiotics? I
JK> used > to get sinus infections on a semi regular basis but that
 JK> stopped some > years ago; I don't miss them. (G)

JK> Yes, I am, finally feeling human today Lol.. it was a trip.. I'm
JK> allergic to most antibiotics (for a long time the only one I could
 JK> tolerate was
JK> doxyclycline, my aunt is the same way).. Anyway, I explained all this
JK> to the Doctor at the emergency clinic, and she said she understood..
JK> the infection was so bad though and the left side of my face had
JK> swollen so badly she insisted on giving me a stronger one than
JK> doxyclycline. I understand where she was coming from.. That was
JK> Sunday by the time I decided I had to get to that emergency clinic for
JK> the swelled left side of my face..

I think I would have put my foot down on that one.

JK> Unfortunately Monday morning the RIGHT side of my face also blew up
JK> like balloon from the new antibiotic, and I really couldn't see out of
JK> either eye much because of the swelling. I realized through some
JK> brief clarity of brain (lol) that I had to get to my GP because he
JK> really knows all the meds I take for MS, and all the allergies I have

Too bad you couldn't have gotten in to see your GP initially. Does he do
phone consults? Mine has a portal on the computer where I can e-mail him
questions, get test results, etc. Haven't tried doing so, but I suspect,
if I needed antibiotics, I might be able to get them thru that (and a
local pharmacy) if we were travelling.

JK> to so many drugs. The new one that my GP
JK> presrcibed worked (yay, another one I _can_ tolerate!), and my GP also
JK> put me on prednisone to reduce the inflammation.

Good, you're beginning to feel human again. (G)

JK> I finally got out to my garden yesterday afternoon.. (yesterday wasw
JK> Sunday so it's been well over 7 days).. and I thinned my baby bok
JK> choy, and a number of other beds that needed it.. I clipped down the
JK> spinach so maybe I'll actually get more than what I pulled from the
 JK> thinning/cleaning up..

Sounds like you're doing much better--and eating quite well.

JK> Last night I made Korean Bimimap for dinner with that baby bok choy
JK> and spinach clippings, and it was sooooo good :)

I've had it a few times, some home made (in AZ, at the Korean mission of
our church) and some vegetarian that I made once. That was quite a
production--a recipe in "Cooking Light" that took several hours to fix!

JK> Here's the recipe I used, I mostly followed it. Some substitutions
JK> noted below. It's a little different from the one in my korean
 JK> cookbook, so it was
 JK> interesting :)

It does look interesting. Did you make kim chee to go with it?
