Team count by state was not a factor, Jennifer. The AL owners
did not want to be shut out of what were perceived as the most
lucrative new markets. That two of these happen to be in Florida
is sheer coincidence, a result of the "sun belt boom" during the
last several years.
BTW, did you know that Tampa "got" a team a few years ago, only
to see the sale/relocation nullified by the league? Or that a
team in California nearly moved to Washington, D.C.?
