* David Noon got everyone's attention by mumbling this to All:
DN> This morning I received a "supplemental" CD for Volume 5
of Dev Conn.
DN> It contained a replacement for the Warp II beta (OS and Developer's
DN> Toolkit) that was on the original Vol 5. The replacements are (or
DN> appear to be) both GA copies, plus the Bonus Pack.
I got the same package. A few items I'd like to add:
1. The copy of Warp is the "pre-fixed" version with the infamous
CONFIG.BAK
installation bug. Fortunately, a sheet is included that tells you how to
get around the bug.
2. The CD includes V1 of the SMART Toolset, and V2 of the SMART Analysis &
Reporting Tool. A rather lopsided combination, but it should still be
useful for porting the occasional Win16 application to PM. Besides...
3. The package itself comes with a order form for a *FREE*, that's right,
*FREE*, you read it right, *FREE* copy of SMART V2 (the whole package)!
No smoke and "mirrors" here, folks; it's Win16 and Win32 to
PM conversion
without
The last item is significant; even if you never use it, how often do you get
the opportunity to get a $15,000 software package for *FREE*? :-) Seriously,
it shows just how determined IBM is to entice Windows developers over to OS/2
(and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were discovered that IBM had sent
complimentary copies of SMART V2 to some of the major Windows ISVs, as IBM
seems to be much more willing to take a loss in the short term than other
companies, if it means long-term financial success).
DN> I guess Christmas/Chanukkah came early this year! Thank you very much,
DN> Mr. Gerstner and Mr. Reiswig!
Agreed! I guess it was Lou Gerstner, and not Tim Allen, that fulfilled the
Santa Clause this year. :-)

... Lead me not into temptation... I can find it myself.
