Ted, that is back to front logic. Fortunately, science rejected that approach 
when it displaced alchemy. Otherwise we would still be living with fifteenth 
century technology while they spent all their creative energy trying to turn 
base metals into gold. 
There is one *very* good reason to believe this is the only planet with 
intelligent life:
No other has been found!
Do you expect me to believe in the tooth fairy until he is proved to not 
exist? I prefer to assume he doesn't until someone proves he does.
