CA>CA>> "Lindows", as it was originally named, advertised that
CA>CA>> it's Windows emulator was better than 'wine' the more
CA>CA>> common Windows emulator for Linux. It was _supposed_ to be
CA>CA>> a selling point at one time that Linspire could execute
CA>CA>> some Windows software.

CA>TW> I haven't seen any mention of that in a long time.

CA>Nor have I but it was the #1 reason anyone even noticed
CA>"Lindows" was out there. At the start they had no 'deals' with
CA>Walmart nor any Lindows specific (cheap) hardware to install it
CA>on either.

I haven't heard must about the Wine prohect lately. Is it stalled ro
soem reason. IF one could make a LINUX machine run it seemed the best of
Two worlds. I pull the leg of a friend of mine once in a while and when
he gets tired he always brings up theri "Software Windows Emulation" :-)

CA>TW> They are pushing their Subscription service heavely.

CA>Here it seems they are pushing the cheap hardware more than
CA>what OS it is using.

That is after you buy. You some FREE time, I don't specificly recall how
much but it was enough for you to pack the hard drive, with the
Purchase of the Computer. After that you have to pay per year fro a
subscription. They claim some 2000 titles on the Web site avaialble for
intalling. Adn as I mentione apparently it is fairly automated. Click o
na selection and sit back and follow a few instructions and it is done.
NO fooling with finding the downloaded file etc.

CA>TW> I should jump on the bandwagon. I see where my local Frys
CA>TW> has the Linspire special for $179 this week.

CA>If you're feeling 'froggy' then jump! ;-)

NOT right now but all this discussion is rainsing my Couriosity. Peehaps
next time. I also had soem thoufghts that it might be a pretty VCHEEP
2.4 AMD machine. But it is built with the Bottom of the Barrel
components I am sure at that price. Not that I am worried about any
Reliability but the bare minimum Motherboard i nparticualrly may have a
lot of drawbacks. Lack of PCI slots as an example for rthose of us
wanting a PCI Hard Drive controller, SCSI card etc.

CA>TW> Some of the names jumping on the Linspire bandwagon are;
CA>TW> Wal-Mart, Fry's, Amazon.com, MicroCenter Online, CompUSA,
CA>TW> PC Club, New Egg, Best Buy, PC Mall, J & R Com, and Tiger
CA>TW> Direct. Most are internet only sales though. Someone else
CA>TW> other then me must think it has soemthing going for it.

CA>Most of the companies you list above are guilty of unethical
CA>business practices or are just outright dishonest. These are
CA>the same companies that would have sold Packard-Bell a few
CA>years ago.

Intersting Insight. Linspire might be the Modern Day Packard Bell.
e Machines gave it a try but then got their act together. Adn now they
have made the Big Time.
I wish Robertson the same luck.
