Have you tried what the SCSI BIOS tellss you about the connected
devices it sees?

Boot up. The adapter BIOS will show its message (when switched on in
its BIOS). Press Alt+A. The Adapter BIOS will come up on screen.

Look through all the entries it gives. All devises on the adapter
should be listed there with theyr correct sizes.

Possible errors:
- the end of the cable is not connected to a device
- the device on the end of the cable is not terminated
This device MUST be terminated - but ONLY this
- another device on the cable is terminated
- the adapter itself is not terminated even as
it is the true end of the cable
Use AUTO for the adapter is always a good idea.
- You've an outside device connected that is not terminated
- You've an outside device connected and the adapter
   is terminated on that end

Uncorrect termination gives any wrong behavior! It may hung the whole
boot process, it may hung some I/O, it may do anything wrong.

Since about 4 years mainboards are NOT tested to work with SCSI
anymore! Some mainboard BIOSes don't like SCSI anyway, some will see a
SCSI boot device only after they are whining that there is "NO drive
x" found. Some will see SCSI drives only when both IDE Controllers are
switched OFF in BIOS and NO IDE device is attached, some likes ony one
or both IDE controllers activated or disactivated without an HDD on them.

Some will handle SCSI controllers only in some PCI slots when some
other PCI slots are empty! It can cost some days to figure out which
PCI slot MUST be empty, which PCI slot should NOT empty, which PCI
slot is able to hande the SCSI adapter, which PCI slot is unable at
all to work when an SCSI adpater is inserted somewhere.

Often - but not always - the chance to get an SCSI adapter working
well ist to experience around.

I'ver here an AMD 1700 sitting that will never see the SCSI controller
on slot 1, 2, 5 - but sees it on 3 and 4 whereas it wont sees it on
slot 3 when on slot 5 is a network adapter, whereas it likes the
network adapter only on slot 5 when the SCSI adapter is connected to
slot 4......

Inserting a PCI graphic card instead of AGP changes the behavior
completely! Then the SCSI adapter will NOT handle more devices than
ID0: hard disk + ID5: CD and you CAN'T get the SCSI adapter working in
slot 1, 2, 4 and 5. Having an AGP card in its slot instead and the
SCSI adapter sees more hard disks.....

No, upgrade of the mainboard BIOS brought NO change. Changing the PCI
graphic card to AGP was the solution: SCSI adapter needs to run on
slot 4 (on all other it was invisible to BIOS), network card on slot 5
(mainboard BIOS ould NOT boot when the network card is on another
slot) and the SCSI adapter sees and handles more devices now.
