I didn't say, and don't believe, that he should be fined or suspended for
that. I think he should be fined or suspended for continuing and escalating
the argument AFTER the player had left the field. There was np reason for
Hirschbeck to do that.

No, I don't think it affected his job. However, it does not show the
integrity that Richie Phillips claims the umpires have, nor does it engender
respect. How can players respect umpires if they screw up, then bask in
glory for the screwup? At least Alomar has been nationally chastised, and
will be booed in opposing ballparks for years to come (after he serves his
suspension.) Nothing will happen to Garcia. If he had integrity, he would
have refused to sign autographs until someone wanted them for a positive
reason.
