subject: 8 meg disk cache

PE> How do I set an 8 meg HPFS disk cache? BFN.

AM> We've talked about this before - I don't think you can. I think two

AM> meg is the limit for any and all HPFS partitions. I'll check

AM> though. I'll get back to you shortly. ;)

I foolishly said without checking:

PM> You use the CACHE parameter on the line that installs HPFS as such:

 PM> IFS=E:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:8192 ...

PM> There is also a CACHE command that you can run from a command line or

PM> your CONFIG.SYS to change some of the parameters such as lazy write. Do a

PM> HELP CACHE for the details.

Oops, when I went back and checked the doco, I found that Anthony was
right; the maximum cache for HPFS is 2 meg. You'll just have to make the
cache 2 meg and create a 6 meg RAM drive which should make zipping really
quick. No one is likely to fill 6 meg with compressed mail (not even Rod
can read *that* much mail in one day :-))
