He had a reasonably sized virtual disk. It seemed that he started having
trouble after loading netscape. I am guessing that after having some drivers
loaded to Windows for things like winsock, etc. that he just didn't have
enough real memory left to load Delphi. Virtual disks are fine for swapping,
but you do have have enough real RAM left to run your programs. I doubt
Winsock is swappable because it is communication related. Just some wild
guesses on my part at this point, but seems to make sense. I didn't see his
system before and after, so I have no confirmation on what actually changed
or not, just what he tells me. He also has an old 386 motherboard and my
personal experience with Windows and low RAM is that some systems might work
with a minimal configuration and some might not.
Thanks for the feedback. BTW, did you use netscape or any web browser with
Winsock loaded on that 8 meg setup?
