Hello Wayne -

WC> My onboard video is an ATI Mach 64 clone with shared
WC> memory, no problems :-)

Luck?

->> A generic copy of Windows would have the same problems

WC> I was already all but fedup with that OS until the straw
WC> broke the camels back.

Understandable that you are not happy with your results.

WC>>> A bit less educational though. The existing GUI root
WC>>> _control panel_ is pretty close to Windows just uses less
WC>>> precise Linux commands than required at the command line.

WC> As long as you could switch it OFF!!!

Yes, there should be an on/off just as there is with XP when
choosing the "classic" displays.

WC>>> I don't think a standard Linux command line has "locate"
WC>>> as a recursive search but I bet it's an alias for an
WC>>> option of "ls" I've already found locate to be useful.

WC> Advisable for some of the more powerful commands when
WC> logged on as root. Mistakes do happen.

For the most frequent commands where many switches are involved
it helps relieve the boredom of constant retyping and
correcting typos.

WC> I went online in 1994.

I'm not sure but I was online around 1980? I was on "The
Source" first and then added Compuserve and Dow Jones News
Retrieval.
